Airfare from Newyork to Miami Flights

Newyork to Miami Flights
Got any Thanksgiving plans? Short of going back to your Aunt Hillary's house for another dried out turkey (for dinner,) consider going to the fabulous Argentine capitol of Buenos Aires this year. Mexican carrier Mexicana posted a series of dirt cheap fares to the southern hemisphere this past week, and surprisingly, the fares are still good this Monday morning.

Take a gander over to Kayak to check for available dates. While fares that we're finding are best around the October & November timeframe, there are plenty of other times that may work as well. And don't forget to use the "flexible search" function to make sure you find the widest variety of dates.

Keep an eye on those layovers when booking your tickets. All flights connect through Mexico City and many of them have atrocious layovers, so you might have to book a hotel in the city. A small price to pay for dirt cheap tickets to Buenos Aires.

Mexicana also partners with American Airlines on this route, so you can get 100% frequent flyer miles on AA.

AeroSur leading local airline serves Madrid and Miami

Bolivia is surrounded by Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Peru. With a population of just over nine million people spread across over one million square kilometres (around twice the size of Spain) it has a population density similar to that of Russia at just over eight people per square kilometre. Spanish is the dominant national language. According to OAG data for July there are 15 airports in Bolivia with scheduled commercial flights, the largest of which are Santa Cruz (Viru Viru), La Paz (El Alto) and Cochabamba (Jorge Wilstermann), all of which are now run by Spanish firm Abertis which acquired the concession rights when they acquired TBI. La Paz is best known in the aviation industry as one of the highest airports in the world, at over 4,000 metres altitude.

Traffic at these three airports has grown by 25% during the last three years despite the collapse of one of the country’s biggest airlines, Lloyd Aereo Boliviano (LAB). These top 3 airports account for around 70% of all Bolivian airport traffic, though the busiest airport for aircraft movements in Bolivia appears to be Trinidad (TDD) which is dominated by 19-seat aircraft
Domestic routes dominate; Madrid and Miami served non-stop

Almost 95% of all flights from Bolivian airports are on domestic routes. However, these flights represent less than 85% of capacity as the relatively few international services that do operate use significantly larger aircraft. There are non-stop international services to eight countries. The USA tops the list of foreign countries served thanks to flights to Miami operated by both American and AeroSur. Peru is served by AeroSur, LAN and TACA while AeroSur and Gol/Varig serve Brazil. Spain (Madrid) is served non-stop by both AeroSur and Air Comet.
In the domestic market AeroSur and Amaszonas are the leading carriers.
AeroSur serves US and Spain

Logo: AeroSurSince the demise of Lloyd Aereo Boliviano in 2007, AeroSur has become the dominant airline in Bolivia with its fleet of over a dozen brightly coloured 727s, 737s as well as the odd 747 and 767. Its international route network includes Asuncsion (Paraguay), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Cuzco (Peru), Madrid (Spain), Miami (USA) and Sao Paulo (Brazil).

Air fares to the United States

For many travellers, this will be a good summer to head across the Atlantic. The pound is recovering ground against the dollar, and because airlines are under huge financial pressure, they are having to generate much-needed revenue by cutting fares spectacularly. In the past few weeks we have seen return flights to New York for under £200 – lower than they have been in summer for more than 30 years.

For departures during the peak school holiday weeks in late July and most of August, the situation is not quite so rosy. The cheapest return to New York on a direct flight then will set you back about £500. However, there is little logic to air fares from the customer's point of view, and you can currently book tickets on the much longer flights to Los Angeles or San Francisco for considerably less than this (see below), or you could wait until late August and save hundreds of pounds.

Here is my guide to getting the best value this summer.

Travel late
If you take your holidays after August 22, fares drop sharply – typically by £200 a head. This still leaves you two weeks before most schools go back in the week of September 7, and will save a family of five £1,000 on the cost of travel. For example, the cheapest return from London to Miami currently on offer through Trailfinders for travel until August 21 is £539 (via Amsterdam with KLM/Martinair). But travel on August 22, and Trailfinders can book you a return with Continental via Newark for £325. To Los Angeles or San Francisco you would have to pay £495 with US Airways (from Gatwick via Charlotte) for the first weeks of the holidays, but from August 22 the same routes with the same airline cost from £295.

Compare the deals
In a competitive market, it is definitely worth seeing which agents can offer the best deals. As well as Trailfinders (0845 050 5892; www.trailfinders.com), companies worth trying include: Expedia (www.expedia.co.uk), Netflights.com (0800 923 1803; www.netflights.com), STA Travel (0871 230 0040; www.statravel.co.uk) and Travelbag (0800 804 8911; www.travelbag.co.uk) It is also always worth looking at British Airways' website to see what it is offering direct to customers.

Fly midweek
It's usually cheaper to travel between Monday and Thursday in both directions as there is almost always a weekend supplement – typically £30 – on flights to or from the United States.

Charter flights
If you are flying to Orlando or Las Vegas, it may be worth comparing charter flight fares – try Thomson (0871 231 4787; www.thomson.co.uk) and Thomas Cook (0844 855 0515; www.flythomascook.com)

Protect your money In the current economic climate no one can guarantee the financial future of any airline, so it is always worth making sure that you buy an ATOL-protected ticket if you are buying a discounted scheduled fare from a travel agent, and/or that you take out insurance to cover scheduled airline failure. See our Guide to ATOL Holiday Protection.
Current deals

These fares are the best currently available with Trailfinders. Flights are direct and from Heathrow or Gatwick, and for travel until August 21, unless stated otherwise. Fares include taxes and charges, but there may be conditions such as a compulsory Saturday night stay. All are subject to availability:

New York
£528 with Virgin Atlantic. From August 22, £309 with Delta Air Lines.

Boston
£509 with United Airlines via Washington. From August 22, £329 with Northwest Airlines from Heathrow via Detroit.

Miami
£615 with Virgin Atlantic direct or £539 with KLM/Martinair via Amsterdam. From August 22, £325 with Continental Airlines via Newark.

Los Angeles/San Francisco
£495 with US Airways via Charlotte. From August 22, £295 on the same airline.

Orlando
£579 with US Airways via Charlotte, or £589 direct with Virgin Atlantic. From August 22, £295 with US Airways via Charlotte.

Washington
£489 with US Airways via Philadelphia. From August 22, same flights with US Airways from £289.

Denver
£544 with Northwest Airlines from Heathrow via Minneapolis. From August 22, £359 with United Airlines via Washington.
Better-travel tactics

Fly during the day
The return flight from the United States is miserable, especially if you have children. You lose at least five hours in time difference and, since most flights return overnight, this translates into lost sleep on a night when you probably won't be able to do more than doze uncomfortably anyway. The best solution I have found is to fly back during the day: your body clock may be out of kilter, but at least you will be able to sleep in a bed. It's possible only on a few routes – notably from New York and Washington to London with BA.

Consider an open-jaw itinerary
If you are on a touring holiday, you might save yourself a lot of driving by flying into one airport and back from another. Into Denver or San Francisco and out of Los Angeles, for example, might work well. This won't cost you any extra on your flight – you just get charged the equivalent of half the return fare for each leg – but you will normally have to pay an extra charge for the hire car. The amount will depend on the destinations, and the length of the hire, but given the fuel and time you will save, it is definitely worth considering.

Fly when you get there
If you want to fly rather than drive when you are in the US, it's worth planning this before you book your flight from Britain. If you travel with a US airline, you can often include free stopovers as part of the itinerary. A few airlines also offer air passes (there is a good summary of the main three options on www.cheapflights.co.uk/travel-tips/airpass.html) Or simply book the best fares you can direct with low-cost airlines such as Southwest Airlines (www.southwest.com) and JetBlue (www.jetblue.com) The website www.sidestep.com is a useful comparison service giving the best fares and the airlines serving individual routes.

Fly direct
With the exception of flights to Washington and New York, you can nearly always get the cheapest fare by booking an indirect itinerary and changing planes en route (see fare examples above). However, the savings won't always be huge – it's £76 cheaper to fly indirect to Miami, but only £10 to Orlando, for example – and you will add at least three or four hours to your journey time and increase the risk of delays. You might feel that a direct flight is worth the extra money.
